Phinizy Spalding papers, 1967-1971.

The collection consists of correspondence concerning the re-publication of The Merit and Reward of a Good Intention, a sermon preached by William Best, D. D., before the Honourable Trustees of the Colony of Georgia in 1742. The book as reprinted contains an introduction by Phinizy Spalding, engravings and a map of the period. The collection includes many letters from William Haynes of the Ashantilly Press, as well as letters from other correspondents. The book was a winner in the 1968 Southern Books Competition.
